Is it okay, to shift and shuffle

Until I find the curves to fit in,

To settle wherever your skin welcomes me?

This is close,

Closer than I ever imagined being,

And still I want closer.

Like a moth than dances with the flames,

All I can do is hover as close as I can

Until the tips of my fingers are singed.

Light Years

You know that each time

I stretch out my fingers

Towards you

They are heading

For the little dots

That lie on your face

Like stars with

Distant and vacant space

Lying between them.

So let my fingers come near

And ease the distance

By stroking the light years between them.

Are you the hand,

That I will hold onto

When the dark is too dark,

When the light is too blinding,

And my heart needs reminding

That I will never be alone?

Are you the hand,

That will softly wipe away

All the tears trembling down,

All the sand stuck in my brows,

Once I collapse into the ground?

Or is the hand you reach out now

The one that splits the choking air

And gently rests across my face?

Is this the time and is this place

That tenderness will forever remain?

Burnt Fingers

And If I were to

Place my lips on yours

And inhale you

Like a cigarette,

Would you glow

Bright at the ends

Of your cheeks,

And would they burn

My fingers with their heat?

The Greatest Distance

The space between

Your skin and mine

Will always be the greatest distance.

Even when only an inch of air separates us

I will still feel like you are miles away.

I think it’s because

You are truly far away from me now

And if I ever see you in front of me again

My mind would assume you were just a mirage.

And only the touch of your skin against mine

Would make me believe you were actually there.

Sweet Exchange

Step towards me

On the tips of your toes

And breathe into my lips

The energy you possess.

I will give it all back

And try at the very least,

To make each exchange

Just as sweet.

I had this moment when I was talking to a friend where I just stared at my hands and thought about how incredible and complex they are and all the amazing things we do with them. We are capable of learning and giving so much using them.  I think hands are really cool and underrated and we don’t talk about them enough.

Look at your hands,

they move at your command.

Those actions are yours and no one else’s.

Think about all the things you’ve achieved with them.

Every pen you’ve picked up, your first written words and all the words that have followed.

Think about every texture you’ve felt.

The smooth and the rough, every crack in the wall you’ve traced and petal you’ve caressed.

Remember the things you’ve fixed using them, the satisfaction that followed?

Look at your hands.

Take a moment to marvel at the control you have, the freedom.

Use that freedom to make someone smile, uses it to free others whose hands are bound.

Use it to feed the weak and hug the cold.

Use your hands for they are free.

Look at your hands.

Take them and place them across another’s palm.

Feel the connection, close your eyes. Feel it and let yourself take in the action, the moment.

Just feel it.

Take your hand and trace your lover’s face with your fingers, around every curve.

Fall in love all over again.

Think about touch. Let it amaze you in both its simplicity and complexity.

Think of the possibilities we have, all the hands on earth.

We can truly move mountains.

Look at your hands.

Love them and use them to love.

Scintilla- A tiny trace or spark of a specified quality or feeling

Do you realise that there are times when the eyes of you and the eyes of me look at each other?

And when this happens it is you and only you that I see and the shape of you is frayed with the edges of the broken world and framed by the eyes of me.

Do you realise that there are times when the smile of you and smile of me greet each other?

And when they do, they let you be a part of me and only me and the words that follow are yours to say and mine to hear. And the smile you smile gives the warmest start to the conversation that follows.

Do you realise that there are times when the breath of you and the breath of me warm our faces?

And mostly when we speak we are so close that I let your breath wash over  the whole of me, as If I’m laying on the sand with my eyes closed and heart open, letting the breath of you swallow my face and give me the warmest of hugs.

Do you realise that there are times that the flesh of you and the flesh of me touch?

And the moment it does, I am full of this feeling that fills the whole of me and it’s not just on the outer of me but the inside of me as well, Like being hit by a wave and just floating there in the feeling I am hit by.

If you realise all of this and the eleven other things I have realised that make

Us, us,

You, you

 And me, me

Then why do you not realise that there are times when I want the lips of you and lips of me to meet?

On. Off.

Sometimes a day can feel like one moment. I wrote this on a day like that. As if the day started and ended with the flick of a switch.

What a simple and subtle way to start the day.

The way you glance at me as the sun turns on and the light welcomes your skin to the dawn.

How beautiful to begin with the scent of the coffee and your hair hovering over me.

The sounds of young birds. Awakening and singing such rich music, so natural and elegant.

And as the clock ticks away the seconds and minutes and hours of life, the feelings from that moment do not diminish.

In fact they only seem to bring rise to new, wondrous and more secretive feelings.

In the dimming light we are silent.

And your skin glows in a new way; it catches the light differently.

Seconds of staring. A moment of touch.
